Happy Retirement to Mrs. Duke

Happy Retirement to Mrs. Duke
Mrs. DukeFor the last 35 years, Mrs. Rachel Duke has dedicated her life to the education of Hamilton county students. We have been blessed at Hamilton County High School to have her as our assistant principal for the last five of that career. She has touched all of our lives during this time, and we are sad to see her go.

But don’t let that sweet little grandma look fool you! She could measure you up and cut you down to size with a smile on her face and twinkle in her eye. Whatever you had done, you wish to goodness at that moment that you had not. She never raised her voice, but the accused student knew when she meant business.

But it’s not the discipline that she handles so well that we will remember best.

As much of an amazing teacher and administrator she was, she is also a great colleague and friend. She had the talent to observe an entire school and fill in what was needed as it was needed. From car duty to faculty appreciation week to making schedules for each student and cooking pancakes for high achievers--she did it all. She was the go-to person for just about everything. The generosity, grace, and patience she shows to all of us speaks volumes about her mission.

Suffice it to say, Mrs. Duke, the lives you have inspired are many, and you will be missed by us all.

We thank you for your service and wish you a happy retirement!
